Bergen Kalfarveien [Episode #250]

Kalfaret is a neighborhood developed at the beginning of the 20th century in the Bergenhus district of Bergen, Norway just southeast of the city center. At that time the precinct was on the outskirts of town and was where the upper class built their homes. Large parts of this original settlement have been preserved including Assistants Cemetery, The Foundation for the Care of Lepers, Bergen Byarkiv, Lyststedet Bellevue and parts of the mountain road also in the neighborhood of Kalfaret, which includes the entire mountainside south of Forskjønnelsen. The main roads in the district are Kalfarveien, Veal Dalsveien, Fjellveien and Ole Irgens way.
